Kongregate Warhammer Online Sweepstakes

So I just spent the better part of two hours earning all my achievements in the Kongregate/Warhammer Online Sweepstakes, where I have a chance to win a free copy of WAR and a 6-month subscription (will give the copy away if I win and apply the 6-month sub to my own account). The rules are simple: You must complete a fairly easy task in three different Flash RPGs.

Goal #1 - Complete a quest in Hands of War. This was my least favorite game of the bunch. It’s basic tile-crawler with clunky controls, poor graphics, and just plain ‘ol boring gameplay. I’m sure many others will like it, but it just wasn’t for me. Luckily the quest was insanely easy to complete so I could move on to the next game. I did the kill 10 mages one and I picked an archer.

Goal #2 - Reach level 5 in Sonny. This game ROCKS! The voice narration, music, graphics, animations, controls, and story are awesome. Warhammer Online gold I played until level 7 I was having so much fun, but forced myself to move on to the next challenge to complete my entry into the sweepstakes. It is very reminiscent of Final Fantasy 7 without the 3rd person world gameplay elements. Strategy is a big factor in this game as well. I got stuck on this one battle and died four times before I realized that I had barely enough cash to buy an upgrade to my gear. Upon doing so and changing up my attack/defense pattern again, I just managed to scrape out a win. I currently have an AI teammate who I have a feeling will betray me down the road… and that fight will be nasty! I will be playing Sonny again… and I can pick up where I left off because it has a SAVE feature. Sweeeeeeet.

Goal #3 - Earn 50 gold in Talesworth Arena: Death Watch. This game is actually pretty Warhammer gold good too, as it’s highly reactionary and involves a bit of twitch play as opposed to the turn-based Sonny. The graphics are so-so and the battles aren’t too dynamic because all the images are static and lack animation, but the emphasis on abilities and their cooldowns has a certain charm. I can see the battle mode getting a bit stale after a while, however, given how many unused ability slots I currently have, and the fact that I’m playing on easy mode (hey, I wanted to get my 50 gold QUICKLY, heh), I could be wrong. It definitely has potential, but I think Sonny is more my kind of game.

So there you have it. Why not give these games a try yourself? I don’t think you’ll be disappointed and it’s probably the most fun I’ve had entering a contest in a while. What’s the saying? “You gotta play to win!” Also, I’m quite impressed with Kongregate. I had no idea you could track achievements like this from a Flash game into a website. Cool technology. Another game I strongly recommend is Desktop Tower Defense 1.5. I can’t even count the hours I spent playing the original last year. I used to dream of turrets going “Pew pew.” Seriously, it was bad.
