I assume you have played the game for at least 10 hours, so I will skip descriptions of every little thing.
MXP (this is realm xp in my definition. i.e. your main lvl)
RXP (renown XP, from PvP)
IF=Influence (wtf? who cares. lol. J/k)
Bascially the game can be overly-simplified to this.
You make a character, you level your mxp up. You get more and more skills, bag space, tactics, morale, and better gear Warhammer on this level. You use this level to run SCs and kill other people. During offtime you do keep sieges. This levels your rxp. All the while this is going on, you will have some downtime, when this happens you do the typical level grind on lame mobs, or something interesting called PQs. PQs give influence but it isn't as valuable as u might think.
Doing a PQ has 2 advantages. One, it gives u better gear then u will normally find regularly (i.e. finishing all 3 influence bars in a chapter will give u blues when u normally are finding greens etc.). And two, it is much more fun to have a goal, then kill those boars over and over and over until u level or an SC pops. in a PQ stage 1 might be, kill 50 mobs, then stage 2 is Destroy 20 hellcannons, then stage 3 is kill 12 champion, stage 4 is kill the hero. If the PQ finishes, the people who participated get a chance at a BONUS bag. Which range from whie color (vendor garbage) all the way to gold bag (epics). Here is where the problem occurs. a TANK should be able to win all contribution points. And then with a decent roll get the highest bags. WHy is this? Well, supposedly the contribution is based on DPS, and HPS. This is not the case. It ALSO favors Damge taken. So what happens is that an Archmage takes 500 damage, does 15k HPS, and 200 DPS. a WHWarhammer Gold 1k damage, does 25k DPS, and ZERO HPS. An IB takes 35k Damge (since he taunts all mobs), heals Zero HPS and Deals 7k DPS. He will get higher contirbution. Also, when u die you either take a penalty or lost all prior cont, no one can confirm exactly how it works. And what class dies the least? Tanks, correct.
So until they fix the cont mechanic, if u want PQ loot, roll a tank. Black Orc is best since they also heal themselves by just attacking.
Renown. This is where ORDER smokes Destro. Order will almost always win in an SC. This means they get more renown for kills, and will probably cap the points at 500 getting the bonus there too. Renown is the MAIN form of XP in this game. Level cap for main xp is 40 but goes to 80 for renown. This is another reason why ORDER is better at the moment. The rich get richer. To earn renown u do two things, DPS, and HPS. DPS people get a ton by spamming AOEs. THis artifically makes their numbers look insane, but inactuality they did little to help the party win. HPS can be skewed this way too by spamming HOTs on everyone in the SC> this makes it look like u did much but in actuality didn't play efficiently. I will explain why in a second. The hidden factors in an SC for renown, are FARMING the other team, Taking DAMAGE, Survival, Killing blows, and SOLO kills. All of those factor in somehow but I do not know the exact number. I am sure in the next couple months somone will read the code, and explain how the mechanic works, but for now, rest assured. KILL PEOPLE and u get more renown.
Ok, now here is where the mechanics gets messed up and why people complain. Lets go to an IB, BW, Arch, Engineer party. It is only those 4 classes for this example. An IB runs in. Some tard hits them (I dont know why, don't ask me. People are stupid for hitting tanks but you will see it happen 90% of the time. Seriously. NO, I REALLY DON'T KNOW WHY.... well actually I kind of do). Anyway, a tard is smacking the IB. (40dps, 40 dps, 40 dps, 40 dps. etc...) The Engineer throws up his AOE turret, and throws his AOE grenades into the DESTRO party. the destro parties healt looks like this-- Start at 2,000 average for each person. He throws his AOEs. all 4 people take 200 DPS. the healers there HOT everyone. SO the 200 is instantly replenished. It would look like this if u could see the health bars. 2000--> 1800-->2000-->1800-->2000 etc.... do this for say 6 ticks and the Engineer racked up 1200 DPS x4. (4800 DPS, not bad). THe other team healer racks up 4800 HPS as well. Woohoo. They are Warhammer Gold eh? The score is now standing at ZERO to ZERO. If this is all that happened, no one would get renown since there are no kills, the tank would have taken 1k damage, done 1k dps (roughly) the engineer will end up with 270k DPS, and their shaman will get 270k HPS. (interesting?). Now, if our BW steps in, he does this. Firecage. (all people in an area are rooted 10 seconds, no break). The BW then DOTs only one of them (since he is feeling generous today.) He DOTs the healer. Healer's HP looks like this (2,000-->1600-->1200-->1300-->800-->900-->ZERO.
What happened? Our BW, just use a couple DOTs, then shot him with fireball at the end. The 100 hp INCREASES were our frantic shaman casting a HOT on himself in a futile attempt at life. LOl
Now, the score is 2-0 (depending on SC) and our side gets Renown. Our BW only hit for 2200 compared to the Engineers 4800 but guess who was far far far more valuable? This is a simplification of the mechanics, and I dont wanna get into Killing bloes, Debuffing healers etc.
Summary: AOEs rack up huge numbers, as do HOTs. DOT's and burst damge are what kills people, Direct heals are what save them. Tanks Warhammer Gold taking damage, doing DPS (and in some cases HPS as well.) and thus racking up Renown on their own schedule. If u want to brag in guild chat make an AOE toon, keep alive, and spam AOEs, Or HOTS if healer. if u wanna assure victory for you side, KILL people. DO this with DOTs. they are vastly OP at the moment, and getting buffed next patch (lol, yeah I know).
Why were people hitting on the tank you say? Cause they are Warhammer Gold and smart. Dumb in thinking that pure DPS is all that matters for Renown (remember kills are where it is at). So if a WE hits an Arch mage he may kill him solo. Say that is 1500 DPS for the WE. He will now get burned down, and have to respawn and run back to fray. Thus hurting his DPS numbers. But if a WE stands at an IB, and keeps spamming attacks on him for 3 minutes (yes, I have seen multi minute fights). his numbers will be higher. For example, IB has 5k HP. WE, and ORC are hitting him. his health goes 5000->>4500->>5000-->4500-->5000->>4500 for about 3 minutes,. this is far more DPS then killing an archmage. and now we got a chosen and WE racking up DPS numbers, a RP racking up HPS for healing our IB, and an IB racking up DAMAGE taken numbers. How much renown was earned??? none. But still all 4 of them will brag in guild chat how leet they are based on their numbers. Again, over simplfication with numbers made up to help u see the mechanic. not trying to prove that hitting tanks racks up 23.45677334545% more DPS numbers then an archmage 74.3236773453% of time etc...
